Frequently Asked Questions

Do We need passports?
Please keep in mind that everyone, including children and infants, must have a valid passport to travel to Costa Rica.
A passport card is not valid for international air travel. A passport book is mandatory.

It is recommended to renew passports with less than 6 months of validity from your return date. While Costa Rica is not strict on the 6 month requirement, it is the ticket agent at the airport that will ultimately decide if you will be allowed to board the flight. Airline employees are often trained to follow the 6 month requirement regardless of country requirements. Are you willing to risk it? Our advice, play it safe.

Passport renewal times are approximately 12 weeks. Minor children need to apply in person with both parents present.

Passport and visa information may be obtained by contacting the U.S. State Department at
(202) 647-5225 or by visiting https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/international-travel.html or www.exploreyourworldvacations.com/resources.html

It is the passenger's responsibility to have proper documentation for international travel.
What happens if I need to cancel my trip?
The resort's penalties are based on when you cancel your trip. Cancellations or reductions made after final payment are non-refundable.
Travel insurance is highly recommended. The travel insurance premium is non-refundable.

If you have paid for travel insurance, you may consult with the insurance provider to see if the non-refundable $250 per person deposit may be filed as a claim.

Are airport transfers included?
Round-trip airport transfers will be added to your package at an extra cost. We must have your flight information within 3 weeks of your departure date. If we do not receive your flight details within 3 weeks of your trip, this will result in your cancellation of your ground transportation. You will not be refunded any costs for transportation. It will be up to you to find transportation to and from the resort if you do not provide the flight details needed for us to arrange transportation.

Make sure you reconfirm your return transfer with the transportation company 48 hours prior to departure. If you are not waiting in the lobby at your assigned pick-up time you will be considered a no-show and will need to have the resort call a taxi at your own expense. Don't miss your transfer!

Is tipping required?
From a Costa Rican point of view, Ticos do not tip since it’s not the tipping culture in Costa Rica. But tipping has become more of an expectation in the more touristic and Westernized destinations.
The standard percentage to tip in Costa Rica is 10%. There isn’t a standard minimum percentage so any amount is very much appreciated. Especially since the minimum wage is not that high in Costa Rica.
It is much appreciated to tip the resort bellman, housekeepers, restaurant waitstaff, pool servers, and bartenders. It is encouraged to tip private driver services but not taxis.
Bring plenty of small bills or have the front desk make change for you. You can tip in either Costa Rican colones or USD or both. Locals readily accept USD as USD can be used in Costa Rica and many Costa Ricans have a bank account in both local currency and USD. ATM's in the lobby often dispense pesos should you need more cash.

When will I receive my travel documents?
Travel itinerary documents are electronic and issued approximately two weeks prior to your departure date. You will receive an invite by email to download the Trip Plans App. Please take time to review the important details and wedding agenda provided through our travel app.

Legal Matters - can i be denied entry into costa rica?
Owe back child support? Past DUI or DWI issues? Felony convictions?
You may not clear customs if you answered yes to these questions. Please contact your attorney to review the specifics of your case.

Is there a minimum night stay required?
Yes, the discount group rate applies to stays of 3 nights or more.
Can I have a guest stay with me for just part of my stay?
The occupancy of each room should remain the same through the entirety of the reservation. We can potentially book multiple reservations, if needed.
WHAT HAPPENS IF i DON'T BOOK WITH EXPLORE YOUR WORLD VACATIONS?
The bride and groom have paid a deposit to pre-reserve rooms for your group. They kindly ask that you book your hotel within our designated group contract through Explore Your World Vacations.  Bookings made through Explore Your World Vacations receive the service and support of their chosen destination wedding specialist in addition to the group benefits. The wedding couple may also face out of pocket penalties for not filling the rooms held in advance for guests.
Can I make payments?
Yes! We can sent up a monthly payment schedule. All payments need to be made before the final payment deadline.
Will there be a dress code?
The dress code for all wedding events will be provided before travel.  Keep in mind that some restaurants may require resort casual or dressy attire — think sundress, nice sandals, or a collared shirt.  Always double check restaurant dress codes when packing.
